An employee making a claim is normally referred to as the ‘Claimant’. Your employer will be the ‘Respondent’.
Tribunals place a great onus on employees and employers to follow the Acas Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures, even though it’s not in itself a law. If the tribunal finds that either you or your employer has failed to follow the Code, any award can be increased or decreased by up to 25%.
So it’s very important that you take advice on the procedures, which you should follow to avoid any potential penalties.
