Eric Robinson’s New Appointment Welcomes Polish Community

One of Southampton’s best known law firms, Eric Robinson Solicitors is welcoming a specialist Consultant to the firm that will help work with the city’s Polish population.

In 1987, after completing her college education, Eliza Saied came to the UK from Poland in order to improve her English. Though her intention was to return home and study English at university, shortly after her arrival she met the man who was to become her husband and father of her two children. ‘He could not speak any Polish, so since English was our common denominator I made the decision to stay and settle here,’ she explains.

Eliza studied law at the University of Kent in Canterbury and her LPC at London Metropolitan University. Specializing in Employment and Commercial Law, Eliza, 40, spent years gaining extensive experience through working in the City of London.

‘I have always enjoyed the challenge of litigation and negotiation involved in Employment Law,’ she says. ‘You get to deal with real people, help them through personal difficulties and achieve success that makes such a difference to their lives.’

Eliza initially joined Eric Robinson Solicitors on a temporary basis as a locum to cover maternity leave, but due to her conscientious approach and ability to easily work with the Southampton’s Polish community, the firm has offered her a permanent position.

‘I was delighted to be offered the chance to stay at the firm,’ says Eliza. ‘There is a very supportive and respectful ethos to Eric Robinson which is unfortunately quite rare nowadays. It feels very ‘homely’ despite its size and I personally find it very inspiring and motivating.’

In addition to help strengthen Eric Robinson’s Employment Department, Eliza is already developing services the firm can offer to the Polish community. ‘I have seen instances where educated, skilled Polish people who have come to the UK to make a contribution and work hard to better their lives have been taken advantage of by unscrupulous employers.’

‘Since the Polish nature is to appease and be grateful for opportunities above all else, there is a need for someone to represent them. I want to offer my language skills and legal expertise so others can achieve what I have.’

‘I also intend to assist employers who take on Polish workers. Polish working culture is different, but if employers are willing to embrace their workforce different needs and expectations they will be repaid in loyalty and commitment. There is also an increasing number of Polish entrepreneurs who are seeking to set up their own businesses here in the UK and Southampton will always be a popular location because the airport makes flights home convenient and easy.’
